Acclimatize to the altitude before you start hiking. Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,400 meters (11,150 feet), so it’s important to give your body time to adjust to the thinner air. Drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen. The sun can be very strong at high altitudes, so it’s important to protect yourself. Pack for all types of weather. The weather in the Andes can change quickly, so it’s important to be prepared for anything. Be respectful of the local culture and environment. Leave no trace and pack out all of your trash.
